Courses
Vetta currently teaches a course in ‘The Art of Hebrew Calligraphy’ at the LJCC in London. In this course, students have an opportunity to learn and/or develop skills in Hebrew Calligraphy and Illumination, and to explore colour and design working with ink, paint and gold leaf on their own projects such as illuminated letters, words and/or Hebrew or Yiddish texts. Inspiration may be drawn from old manuscripts and contemporary sources. Texts may include Haggadah poetry, the Song of Songs, Hebrew poetry from Spain and Yiddish poems and texts. Midrash and legends related to Hebrew letters are introduced.
Knowledge of Hebrew and previous art/calligraphy experience are not essential. Beginners as well as advanced students are welcome. Students progress at their own rate and work on texts of their choice, in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Also offered at The Institute, East Finchley and The Prince’s School of Traditional Arts.
‘A Creative Journey through Jewish Art’ is scheduled to run at the Institute East Finchley. In this course, participants will have an opportunity to explore the diversity of Jewish Art from various times and places. From ancient mosaic floors to the work of Chagall and Anish Kapoor, from Iran to Israel, we will look at, discuss and learn about Jewish Art, ancient and modern, exploring themes such as Jewish Art & Identity, and the work of Jewish women artists. Using these artworks as sources of inspiration, students will then have the opportunity to create their own artistic responses, using drawing, painting, collage, or other media of choice. Throughout the course we will be addressing the issue of: What is Jewish Art? Previous art experience not essential; relaxed and supportive atmosphere.
