Vetta Alexis
Vetta Alexis BSc(Hons) Psych. PGCE. Cert. Counselling. PGDip Child Art Psychotherapy. MA. MBACP. GTC.
Vetta is trained in Child Art Psychotherapy, and has extensive experience of working therapeutically with children and adolescents. Vetta offers a safe, contained context, within which children & adolescents are enabled to explore issues of concern, working with art and verbal processes. Vetta has worked with a variety of issues which include: self-esteem, anxiety, psychosomatic illness, eating disorders, abuse, bereavement and loss, and family relationships.
Creative Therapy enables the child/young person to explore, understand and work through feelings, puzzles and issues that may be of concern. Young people who find it difficult to talk about their feelings often find it helpful to use images to communicate the conflicts of their inner world. This also includes children who do not find it difficult to verbalize in general, but find it difficult to talk about their feelings.
During the session, children often use a combination of images and words to express, explore and understand their feelings. Working with images can support young people to feel safe to explore potentially difficult issues.Vetta focuses on ‘enabling’ children and adolescents, working through art and dialogue to resolve issues of concern. Creative therapy can also be a joyful and stimulating process, where children and adolescents often enjoy the opportunity to work through their issues creatively.
Children and parents are offered an initial consultation session (40-50min.) in which Vetta will make an assessment as to the suitability of the child/ adolescent for therapy. The work may be undertaken on a short or medium-term basis. Regular sessions with parents/carers are part of the process.
Children and adolescents may work in a variety of media including pencil, charcoal, paint, collage, silk painting and model making. They may also work through language combining creative and talking therapies.
